Winter Camp 2014

For me, today marks the last day of 2014 Winter Camp with The Triathlon Squad.  Usually, I’m completely exhausted, fairly relieved to have survived camp, and and just crave my own home and training grounds.  However, this time it’s different.  I didn’t “survive” camp.  In fac1014978_10100905872965388_6327623655754816602_ot, I might have actually enjoyed it.

Don’t get me wrong.

We worked hard.

But after a year with the squad and training under Coach Paulo, I’m becoming a lot more familiar with the work.  I’m also more familiar with the lay of the land in San Diego.  I’m also building friendships with many of my squad mates.  These variables combine to make doing hard work the primary focus with minimal distraction.

So as I head home to Idaho, I owe a big thanks to Coach Paulo for putting camp together and challenging us daily.  Thanks to squad mates Eric Lagerstrom, Magali Tisseyre, Heather and Trevor Wurtele, Joe Maloy, Greg Billington, Summer Cook, Anastasia Uvarova, Jason Pederson for pushing the bar higher and committing to a culture of professionalism.  Special thanks to Andrew and Dani Duggan, and their awesome family for graciously welcoming me into their home.  It’s always a treat to visit with such great friends!  Also thanks to Equal Earth Solar for inviting the entire squad to a memorable Christmas Party on San Diego Bay!  I’ll never forget how Greg Billington provided live entertainment channeling the blues brothers to “Sooooul Maaan”.  Well done, sir.  Well done indeed.

I’m excited to do serious work between now and then, but also looking forward to 2015 and the next #TheTriathlonSquad camp in #Powadise.
